Emerging humanists?
I note that some emerging adults apply humanism to an extent: they are tolerant of homosexuals and don't follow biblical morality. What religionists call sexual permissiveness is applying hedonism in ones sexual life.
Biblical morality has kept humanity from having that more abundant life! When southern moralists sanctioned slavery, they advocated taking from people their rights to lead their own lives and enjoy life more fully. When religionists kept people from enjoying playing cards and dancing, they,too stymied people's enjoying themselves more fully.
That exevrable book does sanction slavery but not the ban on card-playing and dancing.
To be sure, Yahweh speaks with that forked tongue as other Christian moralists urged matters otherwise,but none advocated or advocate full humanism.
All religions with their endorsement of supernatural intent are perforce superstitious. Even Buddhism without God but with its devas- gods that don't interfere with us- depends on intent- that for reincarnation and karma.
That very sexual hedonism is a vital right and duty;its forbiddence is irrational. Non-marital sex rules now. No reason exists for virginity above seventeen years old.
Bi-and homosexuality are moral. Ti' s a barbaric relic from ignorant, misanthropic moralists to contemn them
Society should legalize prostitution and - adult, consensual sex.Other laws apply where real immorality there intrudes.
Studies show that people are acting more morally than those of the Ages of Faith!
I hope that the emerging adults do apply humanism for that more abundant life! Humanism is a realist morality: it advocates objective values in the sense that we can discern consequences when the values are trampled.
Live and let live contemns real wrong-doing.
